The End is Near!

As Advanced Composition draws to an end, reflect back upon your time in the class. What words of advice would you give the next group of students who are coming into this class? What does it take to be successful in this classroom and what kind of attributes does a successful student have?

Try to close with a favorite portion of the class. Was it a favorite reading, a favorite discussion, a favorite activity?

150-200 words.

Due: FRIDAY, MARCH 14th.  :)

  1. This quarter has sure been a strange one. Because our time together was so short, I as though our great times had to be shortened also. I really liked this class even if it was short. We made the best of it and that made it great. My advice to you is to do all the assignments and get them done on time. You do not want assignments hanging above your head especially as the due date for your research paper draws near. Another important piece of advice is to do all of the blogs. They are not that difficult, and even though they may take a while they are easy points, and you walk away with new knowledge. The way to be successful in this class is much like any other class. All you have to do is listen, do the work, and take the criticism that will be given on your works. She is not trying to tell you that your paper is awful she is trying to help you to improve upon what you have done. Because of this, when she gives you a tip apply it. My favorite part of the class was making a half moon when we had discussions. This made the discussion have more togetherness, and this way you knew that everyone was listening. This class is hard for a reason! The reason is to prepare you for life, so don’t take the time you have for granted. Work hard and watch your writing improve. Word Count: 252

  2. The term I took Advanced Composition was a very different term as a whole. This term there were seven snow days and the school board decided not to extend the term which meant that a 9-week term turned into less the a 8-week term. This made the teacher Mrs. Convery a little stressed out because in Advanced Composition you need every single day you are given. Mrs. Convery had to cut back a lot of the work we were supposed to do down to the minimal. My advice for future students is to come into this class opened mined; do not start hating this class because there is a big research paper you need to write at the end of this class. I promise if you have an opened mind when you start this class you will enjoy this class. One skill I learned in this class that you need to do the work you are given when you are given it and not to procrastinate on the work given. If you do not use your time wisely then you will fall behind. I would also tell you to do the blogs. The blogs are the easiest way to get a good grade in the class. Some blogs are long but you will learn a lot from them. My favorite part of this class was when we would come together and talk about what we need to do for the day. This was my favorite part because at the end of our discussion we would all put our hands in the middle and say break! This was a great way to start off a day. (WC-275)

  3. Some advice I would give to future students is to not procrastinate your work. This course is very labor intense and the work will just pile up if you do not get on it right away. There is so much to do all the time it is very easy to fall behind. If you fall behind, take your work home to get caught up as soon as you can or you will be very stressed out toward the end of the term. To be successful, you will have to be diligent in your work tactic and get as much as possible done while you have time to work on it. My favorite time in class was when Blake decided to do his research paper on the Civil War and then the next day, asked Ed who the president was at that time. This class was very fun and entertaining but you have to get the work done to enjoy it. (WC: 160)

  4. Advanced Comp really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Mrs. Convery is really up beat and lots of fun. The final research paper is pretty bad but I'm sure if you had more time to do it, it would be fine. We missed 10 days cause of snow days so we had to work hard to catch up. I would say to come into this class with an open mind and a willingness to learn. It will be a lot easier for you. Also don't forget to do your blogs. They got me a couple of times and I had to hurry up and try to do them. I wouldn’t miss days either. That just means more work. That’s no fun. The main thing I got from this class is that writing really isn’t that bad. Sure it can drag on, but once you get going on your research paper its hard to stop.

  5. Ahhh Advanced Comp. Well I myself am not a personal fan of English or classes that are English related. However to my own suprise I enjoyed this class very much. I enjoyed the people that were in the class for I was with my friends. Most of all I think that it was my teacher. With that my advice to the students would be to be ready to work hard but to have a lot of amazing times with the one and only, the woman, the myth, the legend, Mrs. Convery. To be successful in this class you will have to be a go-getter. Time management and work ethic are the two most important things. My favorite part was my convos with Mrs. C. A woman who can be clever and argue her point is some type of woman. The school asks a lot out of a teacher who has to have me in the class but Mrs. C. (aka Mary Jane from the Spiderman series) took the task and ran with it. This class left me with good college writing skills and good memories.

  6. My advice to future students of this class would have to be, don’t wait until the last minute to do your research paper. There is 2 days of the term left and I’m on page 5 of 7. Procrastination will catch up to you if you choose not to use your time in class wisely. In this class, success is determined by how much time u put in while you are in class. Mrs. Convery gave us ample amount of work time. This allows the common man to get his homework done in class, but if you are distracted by games on the Internet. You will not get all your work done in class. If you stay on task and get with it, you will get everything assigned in class done by the due date. I believe if you give this class everything you have, then you will get a solid A.

  7. Future students, let me just say welcome. This class is wonderful, despite the amounts of homework. It doesn't matter where you are as a writer when you enter this class, because you will learn a lot. The research paper, though dauntingly extensive, is a great way to throw yourself into college writing. I have learned a lot in this class, and I had a lot of fun. Convery is a great teacher, and she is a pro at student interaction. There are no boring days when it comes to this class, because even the lab days turn into a class discussion. Make sure that you make time for this class, because the essays and blogs do take a little while, and if you forget, they will kill your grade. So have fun and don't fret about anything. Make sure that you commit to this class, but don’t let it scare you. Good Luck! (153)

  8. As this class draws ever closer to the end I realize just how much I’ll miss it. For those who will be coming into this class I have to say that you’ll have a fun time. Mrs. Convery is definitely an interesting teacher to have. Just remember that time management is crucial. We had 8 snow days this quarter and it was RUSHED. Time management is something that you’ll need for college and life, not just this class. So, make sure you try to find a balance. Also when you are writing your papers keep in mind everything that you have learned in all other English classes. Every part of your writing becomes very important, especially in that big research paper. If you listen and participate in the lessons and do all of your work you’re on the right path to being a good student. You should do just fine if you try in here. Have fun and good luck. WC—160

  9. Advance Comp. This class has taught me many things on writing. Even though we had a lot of snow days during our time in here I still learned something’s. The main thing I got out of this class is to not freak out on this long paper in this class, I hate writing papers and it actually was easy I thought. Also having Mrs. Convery as the teacher was a big help. She will help you with anything you need give you good advice. I would highly stay in this class and not drop it, its not as hard as everyone thinks it is. I actually really enjoyed this class. As the class goes on you will start to get a lot for homework but it all works out and like I said don’t freak out you will find time to get it done. I hate having homework and usually don’t do it but I got everything done and it all worked out. Advance comp is defiantly a good class to take for college. word count 174

  10. Greetings. My advice for future advanced composition students is to not procrastinate on your assignments. This term was shortened by ten days and it really kicked my butt towards the end. Motivation really helps in this class. My class had very little motivation to do anything. If you just try in this class, you will most likely end up with an A. Also, do your music juxtaposition assignment. That sucker is worth a whopping 85 points! Mrs. Convery will give you plenty of time to get your assignments done, if you use your time wisely. She is really lenient, but you can't abuse that. Advanced comp is my second favorite English class, behind novels (great class). Also, she has been known to give some candy. All in all, I feel like i am a better writer and I am going to miss the silly things that Mrs. C does and advanced comp. WC: 152

  11. Welcome! Welcome! You have now entered Advanced Composition, but do not fret! This class is a wonderful class that appears to be very terrifying and difficult, but it is a great way to learn more about yourself and your writing abilities. Some advice I can bestow upon the entering class would be to NEVER procrastinate, and understand the gravity of each and every assignment. The blogs may seem like a minor thing that is not a major part of your grade, but it will affect your grade greatly if they are pushed to the way-side. Your research project needs to be a topic that is important to you or you will not have the motivation to do it. Self motivation is a key part of ones success in this Advanced Composition class. Mrs. Convery will try to motivate you, but her actions will be lost on you if you are not open to accepting her help and encouragement. The most important thing to remember is to have fun. Good luck! 12. The key to maintaining your grade of Advanced composition is turning your assignments in on time. Or maybe a couple days late, just ask Mrs. Convery to give you some slack. Mrs. Convery is pretty generous and fun, although the blogs she assigns are not very enjoyable.

When beginning Advanced Composition, you will notice that Mrs. Convery has folders on her H-Drive for all nine weeks of class. Within these folders are endless amounts of terribly boring assignments, normally to be done in class. Most assignments in the folders are trash and Mrs. Convery will be the nice women she is and omit the problems.

In Dylan Cerda’s class of Advanced Composition, he experienced an abundance of excellent snow days. These snow days were essential for a fun Advanced Composition class. With around ten snow days, the class would have been terribly long and dull. The weather kept everyone in class on their toes. Future classes probably will not be as fun as Dylan Cerda’s because they will have to suffer the entire 9 weeks.

Lastly, there is a massive essay that’s worth like 1,000,000 points. It is very time consuming, but not too bad. Mrs. Convery is kind enough to allow the class to listen to music while writing the essay. So basically, my Advanced Composition class was way better than yours. (223)
